No news

I'm thinking about getting an account at bilddagboken.se since I don't have much to write here anymore. Then I could at least upload some pictures. I could, of course, upload pictures here as well but blogger is always giving me trouble and it annoys me. If that would just go away, and if I had a more interesting layout *hint hint* I would probably update this blog more often.

Rambling

And so Winter has found me
Caught, her grip cold as ice
Trees go bare and gold covers ground
The candle fails to spread its warmth in the empty room
as Kings sing me to sleep in the blackest night

Well... It IS cold here in Tassie. I think it's been around 10 degrees in the last couple of days. But who am I to complain when everyone at home have had a long winter and I none? Though I could use some warmer clothes than these. And the heater in my dorm (that I've had all to myself!) won't really do what it's supposed to do and warm up the place.

Today I've had the pleasure of meeting the Devil. Or 8 devils in fact. At the Tasmanian Devil Conservation Park. Most of them were up and running and sniffing the air for food, some were sleeping. When it was feeding time they turned into wild little beasts, playing tug-o-war with the food, biting and chasing each other. They were a bit shaggy-looking but still cute.

What else, what else... oh yes. "Oh books, how I love thee!" There are so many beautiful books in every bookshop I visit. If only I had an immense library to fill, and enough money to spend! The mission tomorrow is to find something new to read since I have finished The Princess Bride and Taming of the Shrew already. Things are still going slowly with Jules Verne and his Journey to the Centre of the Earth, but I'm trying (sometimes).
If the weather conditions are good enough I might also hop on a bus to the top of Mt Wellington to see the spectacular view.

The return of Coca Cola flavoured lips

On friday I got the idea that I should visit IKEA so yesterday me and Yoko ventured into town to find the swedish store. How disappointed I was with what I found! Not only was the feeling all wrong, the meatballs didn't taste good and were served with fries or tasteless mashed potatoes. And they wouldn't even accept my Family card!! I don't know if it really was IKEA or just a place that merely pretended to be. Either way, it sucked.

A couple of days ago I made the wonderful discovery of Lip Smackers' Coca Cola flavoured lip balm!! I used to buy Coca Cola flavoured lip balm when I was younger and was sad when it suddenly disappeared one day. Glad to have it back again. Nostalgia!

Hot and cold

I've been an uninspired writer lately and that's why there hasn't been any posts. But now I feel like I have to write something, to share what's been happening in the land of Oz.

Me and Yoko have been living at the house now in little more than a week. Been looking for jobs and just been lazy. Watched many horror movies. Even heard some mysterious noises under Yoko's bed one night. Creepy!
The weather keeps changing between hot and cold. Yesterday it was rain and thunder and the day before that it was hot like hell. This morning I woke up freezing under my duvet. The weather gods seems unable to make up their minds.

Also thought I'd share some photos of the house here but the computer won't recognize my memorycard so that will have to wait.

That's that for now.

Back in Oz

Back in Australia again, this time in Melbourne. Almost felt like coming home as soon as I stepped outside the airport doors and into the sunshine and warmth. Can't it always be warm like that?
Yoko and me have already found a share house to move into, so now all I have to find is a job.

What else? I'm sure I had something else to share but it left my mind.

Kia ora!

I'll give up trying to put everything in order here with pictures and all. That way it's gonna take forever to catch up to where I am now, so I'm just gonna starts uploading some recent photos here and deal with older ones later.

Now I've spent a week and a half in New Zealand and I love it. Spent a few days camping with Yoko and Mark in a place called Hahei. It's been many years since I've been camping but it didn't take too much time getting used to it again. I guess the fact that the campsite had toilets and showers made it easier!
Tuesday it was time for me to move on and I decided to go to Waitomo, a place famous for it's glowworm caves. Unfortunately I wasn't allowed to take photos in the cave but I did take some pictures of the countryside instead.
After a night in Waitomo I hopped on the bus leaving for Rotorua. Was really looking forward to coming here since I read many nice things about it and Yoko also recommended it to me, and I haven't been disappointed. My first night here I went to Te Puia where I got to experience some Maori culture. They did some dance and song performances and then we got to eat hangi, a traditional meal cooked in baskets under ground. Before we left for the night we went up to watch the Pohutu geyser erupt.
Spent yesterday walking around a rainy Waimangu Volcanic Valley, but it was nice seeing the place even in the rain.

Not my town

After a long day walking around town I remember more and more reasons why I don't like Sydney. Spent several hours trying to find a simple yet nonboring tshirt but did I succeed? No! Would have been perfect to find something at Supre since they have a "end of lease sale" but couldn't find anything tasteful in there. All their tshirts have childish texts on them saying things like "psycho bitch" and other stupid things... I don't feel like a psycho bitch, so I don't want to wear a tshirt saying that I am one.
Another reason is that I was never able to find any nice place to eat, and not this time either. Am I just too picky about everything?

From one extreme to another

Tomorrow I'm leaving rain and floods behind and going to the hottest place on earth - New South Wales. Goodbye Townsville, hello Sydney! Looking forward to leaving this place, been here too long already.

225 millimeters of rain

It's still raining. Today will be a day of watching movies, reading books and doing nothing else. But do I have to go shopping for food? I don't want to, it's too far... Maybe I'll just go to that Thai place that I've walked by a few times now, looks really nice. Wouldn't mind eating some yummy thai noodles!

Evacuation

Due to a coming cyclone they are evacuating backpackers off the island and closing down the hostel. So I'm going as well. Don't want to be stuck here next week, unable to catch my flight to Sydney if the ferries don't run. So it's safer for me to stay at a hostel on the mainland. I don't mind really. Just mind paying.

My posse

The rain finally stopped for a few hours today! So I actually got on the bus to Nelly Bay today do to a little shopping. And a little is was since I could only find one grocery shop there!
Yesterday we had some furry visitors joining us at the bar area. There were a bunch of possums running all around. One even tried to climb up my leg, but I wouldn't let it. Very cute though. The same possum later sat in some backpackers laps and it seemed to feel very safe there. Hoping to see it again tonight. Didn't want to touch it yesterday since it might carry some disease or might bite, but it's just so cute! If it returns I'll make sure to pet it.

Wet wet wet

No, I'm not talking about the group that sang"love is all around". It's been raining nonstop here on Magnetic Island ever since monday and it doesn't seem like it's going to stop. According to the weather forecast we'll get another 8 days of rain. Great.
Been meaning to update this sooner with pictures and all, but all computers I've used recently are so slow with uploading that I've just left it for later. And with this computer that I'm using now I can't even plug my camera in since the harddrive has been locked up. Sigh.
And now I'm running out of internet time!
